Amazing HTML5 Video Player: Sublime

There’s been a lot of hype over the power and potential of HTML5 and video. I’ve been keeping tabs on it and there are already a lot of great articles like this one about the how it could just change everything we do on the web.

And I think it will. For those who are not in the know HTML5 will allow us to manage a lot of what we do today on the web without plugins and dependencies (like Flash). It essentially unbinds the us to the burdensome systems (that we’re so used to…).

The potential of unleashing the power of the browser into the space of rich media makes me mouth water and it looks like video players such as SublimeVideo are going to take us there (make sure you have a very updated browser):

Seriously exciting. A number of big players like Youtube and Vimeo are already rolling out their features and versions of HTML5 capable players.

    I’m all about HTML5, it just seems like it’s taking it so long to actual get here.

    The biggest thing I’m actually looking forward to (as lame as this may sound) is how much the markup is actually gonna describe the data rather than us having to resort to CSS class names.

    Gonna be awesome to need a, y’know, title tag and just bust out [title].

    We have big plans for HTML5. We’ve already started some basic integration of HTML5 on our mobile website to help us sniff different devices and serve up the appropriate UI based on the browser’s capabilities.

    It’s gonna be a long time before it’s the “standard” though.

    (Not to get too geeky, but the ability of HTML5 to store certain data locally like Gears is going to make web apps much more mainstream-worthy.)

    Super sleek and sexy looking! So I just signed my church up for a Cloversite, which I’ll be launching to the public the first week of May. As we know, Cloversites are flash. Am I already behind the curve because I’ll be launching a flash site instead of an HTML5 site?

      no necessarily behind, but you’ll want to take close look at how this will impact your ministry and what the best long term strategy is. html5 won’t be massively used and adopted for a while… so you’re safe.

        I think I need to take a web-programming class or two. I’d like to be able to geek out in this area of ministry a little more. Right now I know just enough to be dangerous.

      Nah, not behind the curve. However, by the time it’s necessary for a refresh of your website, you may want to look at more of a standards based platform.

      Of course, Clover does have that nifty iPhone version option, but it doesn’t cover all mobile browsers. :)

        Yeah I really like the way cloversites appear on the iPhone. It also works well on my BlackBerry browser. I imagine that when HTML5 becomes more of a standard that clover will evolve.

    I read last week that this is what Jobs is waiting for to run web video on the iPad, iPhone, etc. and why they have chosen to not support Flash. Claims Flash causes many system errors/crashes.
    Once HTML5 is commonly used, one complaint registered regarding the iPad will be history.

      HTML5 will certainly improve what the iPhone/iPad web browser can do, which will be rather nice, as the lack of flash can sometimes be rather frustrating!

    I’ve been looking for a video player that is a lot slicker and cleaner than youtube. I think this one just might be my favorite so far.
