Being Champions of Offline

I found this exceptionally funny, yet very true (for me at least).

I’ve spent a lot of time recently tracking down my time and where it all goes during the day. I have found that the above scenario happens far more than I’d like to admit. As my Senior Pastor has said, “I’m cheating something.” (From the book “Choosing to Cheat,” affiliate link)

I’d like to think that we, as a people, can be true champions of offline, where we can show the world how radically different our perspective is in terms of “work” and how we can be successful in the technology space without being plugged in 24/7.

My life, at least according to my hours, models that of the world more often than not. How about you?

  1. When I see results I feel fulfilled. Family time is not project or result oriented work. That is my struggle.

  2. This is something I've thought a lot about because I do spend a lot of time in front of the computer. I'm front of it at work and I spend a lot of time in front of it at home.

The thing is, it's not like I'm wasting time when I'm on it. I'm usually working on some side project or reading something that actually has value. I don't neglect the wife, forget to do chores, nor do I choose to sit at my desk rather than go out and do something fun (be it hang out with friends, go exercise, etc).

    My priorities are in order.

It just so happens that my day job and my hobbies and interests coincide around the same medium.

  3. good for you bro. ;) you're one in a few.

  4. Yes, yes and yes. Even though I wish it was no.

This issue has been very much on my mind lately, particularly when it relates to being a parent.

    • definitely as a parent!

  5. The only time I am truly offline is when I am sleeping. I need to change that and find some time to be quiet and just listen.

  6. Yeah like Kyle, I'm only truly offline when I'm asleep. I'm thinkin we should start a support group. Who wants to setup the website? ;)

  7. not me.

    ;)
