Broken Links Stink – Fix Them!

Posted by John Saddington on May 20, 2009

broken-linkEven though I think classy and awesome 404 pages are the hawtness, Google doesn’t, and neither does your readers.

Inevitably, over time, you will have a number of broken links; it’s just what happens. The problem is that most people either do not know about them or they know about them but don’t fix them.

You need to fix them. Broken links stink, and it hurts you in the long run. Enough of them can hurt some of your rankings, so it’s best to do a spot check every once in a while.

Broken Link Checker is what you need!

It’s a simple to use Wordpress plugin that will check your pages and your posts for broken links and gives you a handy-dandy notification too.

Give it a whirl! You can thank me later when your SEO rankings improve. ;)

  1. In the past, when I used more SEO friendly platforms, I replaced my 404's with 301 Redirects. It worked nicely for me.

    Later!

  2. Thanks I just installed the plug-in and sure enough I had 2 broken links, which I promptly fixed. Now, if only I was this pro-active with my seminary studies…

PS: I am so thankful for WP 2.7 and the one-click plugin install.

  3. aww man… I like my 404 page! haha… thanks for directing me to this plugin! surely a good find.
