Don’t Let Your Fingers Be The End of You

Re-reading some Godin-gold this morning had me pass by this particular piece that made me stop and do some serious thinking about what I write things in the online space.

Godin says:

The neat thing about the online world is that you are judged almost entirely by your actions, usually based on just your fingers.

Although this might be “neat” it’s also a warning to us to be careful about what we write and what we do through the mediums that we use.

I want do to “generous” things through my blogs, not just because I’d like to be seen as such, but because to do anything else wouldn’t be beneficial to the community at large and would, from my own on-mission perspective with blogging, would be a waste of my time.

I’m going to be re-evaluating this coming year. I’m excited.

Where do you guys stand?

  1. I want do to “generous” things through my blogs…I like the sound of that! Making a blog about others instead of self is a great idea and a convicting challenge for me. I do try for that, but always worry if it is more for me than others.

I also agree that you have to be careful about what you write, because without the face to face contact, it is easy for someone to get an idea about you different from how you think you are portraying yourself since you cannot easily judge their reactions to you unless they write back.

    • almost every single time i've met with someone in the real they've gotten a bit different impression of me. isn't that odd…

      • I'll let you know how odd after we meet in person!

        • cool. summer session. a few classes. let's do it.

  2. I am now sending everything out to my editor before posting. And there's a new schedule for the blogging.

    • that's good stuff. i have my wife.
      ;)

  4. ahhh, the power of my index finger! And when I press submit there is no greater pleasure, or umm, fear of recourse.
    :-)

and of course the neatest thing is that you can't really be truly judged by any physical attributes – only by your mind, your sense of humour and just how often you can press submit in one day. ;-)

    • i tap with my toes.
