Ever Wonder How Many RSS Subscribers Seth Godin Has?

Posted by John Saddington on Apr 15, 2009

I woke up this morning and randomly wondered that too. So, I set out to find out.

Apparently, Seth has 263 thousand followers, as of today. Wow. That’s a lot of subscribers for a blog, let alone a blog that’s updated by just one single person.

Congrats Seth, that’s monumental.

But there are a few other interesting points of note, the first being that daily his figure fluctuates around 5k followers a day. It brings an entirely new perspective when we complain and moan that our individual RSS subscriber count drops 10 or *gasp* 100 or so.

In addition, his day-over-day increase is about 500-1,000 followers. Not bad. Most of us are lucky if we can secure 1 or 2 more a day.

But there’s encouragement here: It proves that solid content can provide consistent growth. We have to remember that Seth, at one point in time, was another “drop in the ocean” of influence. His first post (on his current blog) is from January 15, 2002.

Yea, he’s been doing this for awhile.

In an age where we glorify the quick build and mega-groundswell we have to remember that the “marathon” race is probably a better model to be considered in terms of growth.

We all start from zero. You only have “up” from there.
