Facebook Connect and IntenseDebate Join Forces!

In a limited release, IntenseDebate has recently released integration with Facebook Connect.

Although I’m not interested in Facebook Connect wholesale as the primary application for commenting, this blend is perfectly find and dandy with me, so much so that I’ve been one of the lucky few to test-drive it for them! We’ve been working together for a week or so to get this thing going, and I’m happy to announce that it appears to be working!

One of the reasons I was so willing to test-drive this was because I still have control over the data in my own mySQL databases and can always revert out of the 3rd-party commenting system at any time. I like that. I like that a lot.

So you can now sign-in and comment with your Facebook account here on ChurchCrunch.com! I know they are still working out the kinks in the system, so results may vary, but I’m excited about this unique integration and I think the possibilities are very bright.

Hopefully they’ll be opening it up for more public release and you’ll get to use it as well. Great job Michael and the IntenseDebate team, keep up the great work.

And, of course, this is just another great reason to move to IntenseDebate. Do yourself a favor and upgrade.

    The Facebook Connect appeared in my Intense Debate account not sure I got it setup right, but thanks for keeping us informed of the changes.

    Hi John,

    I have it running as well on diaspora.ie and it seems to be holding up fine. Its definitely a step forward for Intensedebate (which I like a lot and plan to stay with), but I think it'll really come into its own when user comments can get pushed back to Facebook as well.

    At the moment it seems to work predominantly in favour of the commenter, and I guess possibly encourages visitors with a Facebook account to actually comment. It would be good from the site owners perspective if the commenter also had the option to display for example the first line of their comment on Facebook, with a link back to the originating post.

    The Intensedebate team are doing a great job and I hope this is part of the game plan.

    For now though, and before I click 'submit comment' here i have to make a decision – use FCB and get a link to my public facebook profile, or go the 'name, email, website' route.

    I'll choose the latter for now.

      it's actually pretty easy. once you get the option, goto your settings and just follow the instructions.

    I'm with circle solution. I tried to do this from the wordpress plugin, but can't seem to get it to work yet (at least the option isn't at the bottom of the page)

    Cool features. With this feature, we can connect our blog with our commentator facebook. It is also connect us with their friends. Very smart feature from intense debate

    PS – this comment preview thing is extremely slow and annoying… I don’t need a preview when I can see exactly what I wrote right in the text box.

      it’s a little resource-intensive, that’s true. we’ll take a look in a month or so and see how people are feeling it out.

        You didn’t answer my first question. Why not using IntenseDebate anymore?

        And this preview thing is a little more then “resource intensive”, it plain doesn’t make sense. For such a great site, this part is a head scratcher. There’s more lag than playing a Steam game on 9600 baud dial up modem. If you don’t want people to comment anymore then it’s great!
