Hey Team.
I'm doing some research for texting in questions during church. I know we're not the first people doing this, so I was wondering if ya'll had any experience or knew of services that would be beneficial.
Love it, thanks.

YouVersion Live (http://www.youversion.com/live) is going to be doing that, I'm pretty sure, right?
Otherwise my church normally uses an extremely high tech method: we choose someone's phone to be the one to which the questions are sent, tell the congregation to send messages to that phone number, and get someone in the proverbial sound room to receive those texts. Then, the receiver transcribes the question, gets it approved by a wise approver-person, and puts it into our worship/slide-management/it's-not-called-PowerPoint program. Here's the fun part: the receiver then uses some remote access service (we've used LogMeIn, out of laziness/convenience) to edit an open Word document on the laptop which the speaker is holding. Each question is numbered, the speaker tells the slide-guy the number, and the question goes on the screens.
It's wonderfully simple.
If you find a better way to do this, I'd sure be pleased. I haven't really thought about it very much, mostly because I didn't get very much notice the last couple of times we've done this. I'm sure I or someone else could hack together something that would reduce the number of times we have to copy the same message...I'm just hoping it's already been done.
I like the DIY style, I think this might fly...
My favorite is questions developed on the fly, but we're thinking about harvesting questions one week, and actually doing them from stage the next week...
Thanks for the ideas Steve, I'll let you know what we choose to use.
Anyone else?
Yeah, we added that option in, too. We collected questions beforehand and pre-populated the Word doc and slideshow. It was nice because it bought us time while we added the new ones in.
Hi Stephen-
My company Mosio offers a cost-effective, web-based text messaging questions and answers technology. You can learn more about it here http://www.mosio.com/biz - The system has a handful of great features (auto-responders, notifications via email/text/im, textspeak translator, etc) and is accessible on over 260 million mobile phones. After you check out the site, if you're interested, contact us via the contact page and I'll send you pricing info (we offer discounted pricing for education, non-profits and churches).
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,
Noel
I'm interested in this too. I've looked at eztexting.com, which looks alright. I've heard of several churches using it. I've found some larger providers online, but all seem alittle too steep at the moment.
We ended up using Google Voice.
Our number is 5555-ASK-NOW, and they are permanently archived, and completely free.
So far it's worked perfectly, and since it's in place, we use it for series or other weekend events.
I love it when Free replaces Paid just as well!
