Friday 5 – Tony Morgan – @tonymorganlive
Many of you already know this guy. He’s got this funny book called “Killing Cockroaches,” is the Chief Strategist at NewSpring Church, and a prolific blogger.
Obviously the guy is busy, so grabbing a few moments for a Friday 5 was something close to a miracle.
I’m personally excited to see what God’s got Tony doing and it’s been an increasing pleasure to catch up with him occasionally… and I hope more this year and on.
So let’s jump on it:
Name?
Tony Morgan (but you can just call me Tony)

Time Bandits or Favorite Websites?
When I’m not hanging out with my family, I enjoy music, reading, writing, ESPN and on rare occasions golf. Too rare. I like traveling and experiencing new places…especially when I can take my wife. My favorite websites typically have a Google logo attached to them. Mainly, I love the discovery of new sites and web applications. Technology intrigues me.
Whatcha Working On?
Aside from the husband/dad thing, I’m trying to be strategic. It’s the way God wired me up.
Primarily that means taking the vision God has given NewSpring and helping to see that happen. I’m also trying to encourage and challenge and learn from other leaders. I guess I think there’s strength in numbers. I want more people to follow Jesus Christ. And I want more people committed to making disciples. The more the better. I happen to think technology and online social media will be critical to that happening.
How do you see Web Technology impacting The Kingdom?
Well, I wish I knew. I’m not very good at predicting the future. I’m not the guy that dreams up new applications and then brings teams together to build them. That’s not me. [Editor: That's me I guess...
]
I’m more of the guy that identifies useful tools and then tries to get them in the hands of people who can leverage them to further our mission.
Right now, I believe that includes a heavy commitment to community (through social networking) and experience (through online media). My prayer is that God will continue to bring us gifted people so we can discover, together, how to leverage emerging technologies to spread the Gospel. At the same time, I’m praying God will continue to reveal to us how we can redeem technology for his purposes. I figure if I continue to get the right people on our team and give them the freedom to experiment and succeed and fail, we might see some great things happen.

Very cool,
I agree technology and online social media [is and will always be] critical – at least think it is currently critical in making disciples in this online social media driven world.
Gotta get your book – it is what I struggle with at times – that I try to do everything tho I am trying to find those people that can do the things I can't – it's hard especially when it means letting go and stepping into the background. hmmm
Right on! Tony has been an inspiration to me lately. Good to see him in a Friday 5!
