Google Wants Your Sermons

Posted by John Saddington on Feb 20, 2009

Apparently Google is trying to establish a robust database of Sermons and “Religious Writing” through their Google Base Directory and Repository.

Who would have thought?

google_base2Although the thought might “feel” weird at first (well, for me perhaps) it’s probably a smart thing to do.

More than a few SEO thought leaders have suggested that adding your content to Google Base will help you perform better in Search.

Doesn’t hurt to try, right?

Not only will your ministry perform better, but some of it will show up on “Google properties” for free!

google_base3Make sure you put in the right “item type” since it’s not listed directly.

What do you think? Will you start making it a “habit” to put your stuff on Google Base?

If you’d like to try it, go here directly for the Google Base for Sermons and Religious Writing.

Let me know if you start doing it!

I think the costs might outweigh the benefits on this. First, there's no guarantee your material will get wildly better treatment from Google. Second, this project sounds like just another idea to expand Google's ad inventory. You would have no control over the ads being placed around your content, and for something as personal and considered as a sermon, I'm not sure that's a good thing.

  4. After I read your post, I thought this would be a great way to kill two birds with one stone, so I added a feed from http://sermons.logos.com and in a few hours they should have another 63,000+ fresh sermons indexed on that search! The cool thing for pastors is that they can now just add their sermons to their account at http://sermons.logos.com and we will automatically push it up to Google for them! Pretty cool!
