HeLives.com – Internet Ministry and the Ends of the Earth

Posted by John Saddington on Apr 1, 2009

“By all possible means I might save some.”

I’m really digging this video featuring HeLives.com and Tim Kimberley, the founder of the website. Even though it’s  a promotional video for Dallas Theological Seminary, Tim’s words really resonate with where my heart sits and I found it extremely encouraging.

The internet may not have been what the Apostles had originally thought when Christ said in Acts 1:8 that they would “be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” but perhaps it’s not so much of a surprise to God.

The internet is a mission field and sometimes it’s easier to be effective if you see it as one. Tim’s doing some great stuff for the youth (and has been) for a while. I applaud him for it.

I’ve been a student there for 4 years and it’s been one of the best choices I’ve ever made.  In fact, it’s partly why I’m doing what I’m doing and they have provided the framework for how I do ministry online.

It’s good stuff.

Nice video – agree! However, I was checking out HeLives.com and it looks like it's gone a bit dormant. Last blog post was January 9, 2009 …. forums had just a couple recent postings, the rest look to be from past few years. Maybe this speaks to the challenge of keeping these kinds of ministries going — how to keep the momentum going? What kind of internet ministries ARE sustainable and how is that achieved?

  4. Lynette,

That's a great point. You have to create sustainability in today's social tech economy.

it can be a challenge, but there are a number of great strategies out there. for me, i've got a “schedule.”

  5. You take classes online? Why did you have to kick me in the face and there be a Tampa campus? Really? A Tampa campus? Now I'm going to have to think about it.
