Business, StrategyHow Scared Are You About Privacy Online?
Serious question: Does all the stuff you share online make you nervous? How nervous?

Community, Conferences, GiveawaysBibleTech:2010 – 2 Free Tickets!
The mission of the 8BIT Network is to resource the Church with timely, relevant, practical and exceptionally valuable content, which makes partnering with BibleTech:2010 a no-brainer.
This conference is going to rock for anybody in ministry that is taking the mission to the next level. It’s such an exciting time for Bible Technology! Web 2.0, Mobile, open source projects and APIs are opening doors and sparking creativity in the development of technology for Bible study.
Want to know what’s in store for for the next generation of Bible technologies? What software and applications are affecting the way the Scriptures are translated? Can you format the Bible for an XBox 360? How is social media affecting the way people experience spiritual community?
Google, Web ToolsSocialwok Makes Me Feel More Socially-Asian (and More Productive)
Actually, that’s what @Jared, one of my 8BIT teammates said, or something to that affect.

If you haven’t checked out Socialwok, a new social communication and group collaboration tool that leverages your Google Apps account, you need to.
And not because I said so but because it seriously looks like a valuable tool.
… And I’ve just been using it for 5 minutes.
We’ve just started trying it out at 8BIT and although the verdict isn’t in yet I’m personally excited to see how it can be leveraged effectively.
Google, SEO & Search, Strategy, Web ToolsAlertRank: What Google Alerts Should Have Been
I’ll be honest: This new tool is pretty darn ugly but it does an amazing job at creating a better understanding of your Google Alerts (If you need some help check out this post: Google Alerts are Important for Ministry)!
Check it out: AlertRank!
It essentially creates a ranking system for you to quickly see where the more influential links and mentions are coming from. It even gives you a nice PDF you can download and share!
Conferences, Social Media & NetworkingSXSW Interactive – Any 8BIT Peeps There?
South by South West Interactive is arguably the most import gathering for the Internet of the entire year.
So who’s coming to Austin?
The amount of sessions and keynotes is so overwhelming that I am heading into SXSWi with a very rough penciled in schedule so I have time and space to connect with people.
If you’re going to be here, we should connect.
Communication, StrategyEngaging with People with the Right Tools (or No Tools at All)
I struggle with this.
A lot.
I’m a man of convenience. This is pretty much a bad thing for pretty much every reason. I also can “assume” that people have heard things or know things even though there’s no reason for them to be aware of those things.
Does that make sense? Perhaps this cartoon will explain:
Communication, Strategy, Web ToolsEstablish a LinkedIn Outpost for Your Ministry
Your church definitely has a website, probably a Facebook group or Fan Page, and maybe a Twitter account. But a LinkedIn group?
LinkedIn can be seen and treated as the ugly step-child of social media sites. Unless you seriously need a job or seriously hate your current one I doubt your logging hours on it.
However establishing a presence on LinkedIn can be strategic for your church or ministry.
Here’s why:
Facebook, Internet Church, StrategyNorthland Church Launches Facebook Church
This is pretty neat (and different).
Apparently Northland Church has launched a Facebook application with the hopes of being one of the first Facebook Campus:
On Sunday morning, Northland, A Church Distributed will officially open the doors to its new Facebook app, which will allow worshipers to invite their Facebook friends to go to church with them—without leaving the familiar Facebook environment.
Plus, even when live worship isn’t happening, the opportunity for worship is readily available because the previous week’s service will be posted and available for viewing 24 hours a day.
“We encourage people to be the church everywhere, every day, so it just makes sense to put resources out there that will help people to be that church,” explains Nathan Clark, Northland’s director of digital innovation.
Fascinating. Church, within the culture and context of Facebook.
Communication, Open Source, StrategyThe Open Source Pastor
Hey pastor, I have a confession: I’ve been pastoring people from your church.
I have had really deep and meaningful spiritual conversations with your sheep. They still show up at your church every Sunday. They say really good things about you. In fact, I have been watching your sermons on the web and talking with your people about it. They asked me to.
This story is becoming quite common; it’s playing out online.
