Parallel? iCampus Experiences and “News” on Computers

Posted by John Saddington on Jan 29, 2009

Take a look at this video below and give me your thoughts. I honestly think there could be some parallels between this report at the time and the conversation that’s swirling around our heads about where the  internet plays a roll in community and the Church.

It’s not a perfect parallel, but one to ponder. Have a great Thursday all.

  1. That's hilarious … as a former media guy … and a current icampus guy. The "ludicrousness" of online church will seem almost the same in 20 years.

    • :) dude. how's it going? only a few more days………………

  2. Sure looks like a Trash-80 (Tandy Radio Shack – TRS-80) to me. Acoustical coupler and about 16k of RAM. Data storage: a cassette tape recorder!

Parallel: more sophisticated technology, larger installed base, decreased cost, and user comfort are what turned the corner for online news… same with online "church." Range of choice in free content (lifechurch.tv and others) will help. User adoption of online "community" is at a tipping point (note sudden rise of Facebook adoption in recent months… by non-techies).

As lifechurch.tv and others are finding, online communities are starting to DRIVE face-to-face community. The new front door may be online.
