Passionate About Web Tech? Do Something About It (In the Real World)

Saw this from LifeChurch’s Swerve blog and I thought it was awesome.
“Passion into Action” is what they are calling it. I agree. If you really hyped up about using web technology for ministry and the Church then you’re going to do something about it, and one of the greatest needs is making sure that people who aren’t using your web properties, applications, and visiting your sites get there.
What does this mean? This means that you’re still going to need to engage the lost and dying world offline.
So go do it. Make a big deal about it to people who haven’t heard it yet. That’s the Gospel, right? The people who need the living words of God are those that haven’t heard it yet.
Now, if I could only get someone to get some billboard space for ChurchCrunch…

Awesome post, John. All the technology in the world can't make us care for the lost; that must come from the heart.
I pass out my business cards to people to direct them to my blog. Where there are links to places like ChurchCrunch and other awesome churchy web spaces and topics.
Engaging the "offline" world with good old fashioned business cards… cool and hip "skinny" cards of course.

Hi John,
I enjoyed your presentation at WordCamp ATL but had to leave early to read during Saturday mass. I'm one of my church's website managing editor's. We finally got clearance to make pulpit announcements about resources on our website like our ministry pages, our Haitian church sponsorship program and special events. We hope this will get people to use the site more. We also make sure pertinent links to the website appear in the printed church bulletin. I did a presentation to our ministry leaders on social media. They want to learn more. So yes engaging offline to push them online is the way to go. It's all about educating people to try new forms of communication. I'm sure the folks who are slow to embrace websites and social media also thumbed their noses at TV and radio.
thanks for stopping by! hope it was helpful!
