Re-Thinking Social Media – Part 8 – Competition

I’ve actually covered this particular concept here but it’s application is extremely broad, and it’s worth taking another look at it.

In the evangelical world we often times see “competition” as a bad thing. But for those who attended Re-Think’s The Orange Conference it all made sense.

You see, their students and kids face competition every single day: In school, in tests, in attempts to make the varsity squad, competing to be the most “cool,” etc. Competition is what the people they minister do.

So start thinking of ways to provide healthy competition via blogs. Challenge them, challenge each other, hold contests, and provide that element of competitive spirit that they already have. Leverage it appropriately and you just might see some traction.

Things that the evangelical world look down upon aren’t always that bad for the blogging medium. Time to doing some re-thinking.

  1. Will do. I'm going to be chaperoning our high school youth on a couple of trips this summer. During those trips… my blog will be hijacked by posts about said trips so that the parents can see what we're up to. It's the perfect opportunity to intersperse some posts unrelated to the trip as well. I'm going to be getting a boost in viewer traffic on my blog because of these trips… mostly from members of my own church. I'm thinking about doing some sort of blog series as well during them. You know… to show the parents what the blog is all about. I'm still trying to come up with ideas on this. If you have any… let me know! :)

  2. the first time i realized my parents were reading my blogs it shocked me. … ;)
