Saw a number of posts this morning about innovation as well as sharing it.  I think this is pure genius and should be a part of every techno-evangelists mantra.

Tony Morgan is partnering with Outreach Magazine again but doing something a tad bit different this time.  He’s created a google form to help capture innovative ideas that others have had in order to:

[...] discover innovations from churches that may be new to us and that hopefully reflect a diverse cross-section of U.S. churches.

But it’s not innovation for innovation’s sake.  As Dan Ohlerking mentions, quoting Peter Drucker:

innovation is “change that creates a new dimension of performance.” it isn’t just something cool that someone dreamed up. it is something that is cool because it is effective.

In addition, I’ve always personally believed that innovation isn’t always just the new thing either; sometimes it’s doing something old but doing it better and more effectively.

I think digital media and online mediums and communication are a part of that innovative-stance, because essentially and fundamentally all we’re trying to do is find other ways to communicate the Gospel (this is a bit simplistic from a pragmatic perspective but is the heartbeat of what we’re doing philosophically).

Say what?  You’re not interested in sharing your innovative new idea?  You need a spanking (thanks J.Phillips for putting it extremely well)!

You may be thinking, “yeah, well I don’t want to share my innovation. Someone might steal it!” If you’re thinking that, then you need a spanking, b/c we are the Body of Christ and we’re all in this together – we need to share with each other and help each other and not make everyone else re-invent the wheel all the time.

Unfortunately, I see a lot of this happening and have even felt the tug of sin in this regards as well.  Sharing the so-called “glory” can be a difficult challenge, but you need to set your mind right, don’t get it twisted!
