Starting A Movement
The longer that I hang out in the technoevangelical circles the more I see the growth of something much bigger than all of us, and that’s exciting.
It’s like the rise of a movement, growing slowly over time and gaining speed and momentum daily. Perhaps it’s always been there and I’ve simply been looking in the wrong places or hanging out with the wrong people.
This movement is critical for the evolution of how the Church engages with the world. It’s also crucial that we “get it right”, if that makes sense. Thankfully, we have a lot of great examples, both from within the Word of God and without.
One great example that keeps coming up is the Passion Conferences Movement and the 268 Generation, spearheaded by Louie Giglio. Their record label, SixStepsRecords, has been a major part of that.
Now they didn’t get it right or plan most of this, but God worked through their singular focused passion for worship and the Spirit did the rest. We can learn much from them, and I’m very thankful for this great article by Christianity Today.
If you’re interested in starting, leading, or being a part of a movement, learn from those that came before you. And as Louie and the rest could attest to, you’ve gotta take it one step at a time.

@ChurchCrunch re “Starting A Movement” http://tinyurl.com/4hgf65 – ever consider applying it to Spiritual Movement? read http://bit.ly/dlSA

Interesting, but have you ever consider applying it to Starting a Spiritual Movement? Check out Keith Drury's article on this a while ago http://www.drurywriting.com/keith/S_movement.htm- I am still tracking his advice on that…
Bumble, what a freaking great resource. THANK YOU for that… let me dissect.
John, could you elaborate? I would definitely agree with you, but I think we need to describe what we are talking about. We all may sense something, but unless we can describe it in terms of vision, relationship, or content is it truly there?
I see a lot of people making stabs at what Christian community will look like in the 21st century. We have everything from the Orthodox Church to the "Emergent Church." We have full scale social networking sites (Mars Hill – On The City) to the Amish still riding around in buggies. We have wonderful variety in thought and custom, but as the Church and technology intersect we need to understand how we will move forward for the good of the Kingdom.
In short in the next few years, where do we move and why?
there are a number of things i'm thinking about, and it would take a bit to explain. i hope to uncover these things and unpack them in a few.
i'm also doing a lot of thinking about where this blog is heading as well… and the "why".
thanks for asking the hard q's daniel, you rock.
As people begin to become more social on the internet we as believers need to follow them so we can meet them where they are at. Looking at the internet as a means to reveal Christ and essentially be 'missionaries' is important. A big part of what I think this movement is. This is also an amazing medium for believers to connect and explore new creative ideas to share the gospel and be more effective in ministry. And I love how this blog does an amazing job showing how a simple tool can be used to truly enhance ministry. Keep rockin us with your insights here at ChurchCrunch. I am seeing that I am always thinking inside of the box even when I think I am thinking outside of the box.
being missional is what i'm all about…!
you've got important stuff to contribute too… i'd love to hear about all of them!
