If you’ve been around the interwebs for a while then you’re already familiar with the hit meme LOLCats and iCanHazCheezburger.

YouVersion Releases NLT Version for Limited Time!

Posted by John Saddington on Jan 6, 2010

YouVersion has released an offline version of the NLT (New Living Translation) for a limited time for the iPhone and iPod Touch:

The NLT will be available for download for 90 days and will remain there forever (unless you delete the Bible app from your device, heaven forbid).

Again, we want to thank Tyndale House Foundation for their generosity in making the NLT available offline for this time.

Very neat. I will admit that I’m curious why it’s only available for a limited time. What exactly is the purpose of a limited window for download?

Another spiritual mystery.

YouVersion Launches Reading Plans

Posted by John Saddington on Dec 22, 2009

YouVersion recently launched Reading Plans, a new feature to their ever-popular online Bible service and mobile app.

For many this is a much-anticipated feature and I can imagine it’s use is going to be significant. There’s plenty to what they’ve got going on including a support system, an ability to progress at your own pace, a number of different reading plans, and more.

Check out this great short vid of what they’ve got going on:

So, you think you’ll use it? What plan are you following?

One Billion Minutes: Reading the Mobile Word

Posted by John Saddington on Dec 10, 2009

one-billion-minutes

A very neat milestone, indeed! One Billion Minutes of reading the Bible on YouVersion.

Congratulations to the product team over at LifeChurch and Team Digerati for developing an mobile version of the most precious text ever created and assembled!

So, how much time do you think you’ve spent reading the bible on your mobile device? I’ll be honest, I read my physical one way more than my digital version, and I’m not sure that’ll change.

I just like the “feel”…

What say you?

Biblical References to Technology in the Bible

Posted by John Saddington on Nov 23, 2009

Technology-and-churchApparently someone’s been collecting a number of biblical references to technology as well as general technology references in a wiki format over at WikiChristian.org.

I have always wondered if someone had done this type of meticulous study.

I haven’t read it for completeness nor correctness but what a great start!

Thanks John Dyer for the heads up.

If you’ve got any interest think about contributing (if the author is up for it, which I hope he is).

Sweet. What a great reference!

Getting Your Game On with the Bible on Xbox 360

Posted by John Saddington on Nov 12, 2009

biblexbox

Just in time for the Christmas (whoops, I meant “Holiday”) Season, HCSB has announced that they’ve been able to publish the Bible on the Xbox 360 game console.

Called Bible NavigatorX, it can be found in the “Indie Games” section. Some stats:

  • First ever Bible Reader on the XBOX 360
  • Includes entire HCSB Bible (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
  • Includes Search feature and Bookmarking
  • Available for XBOX 360 and Windows PCs
  • $5/400 Microsoft Points

And from their website:

The application will consist of the complete Old and New Testaments as well as three additional tools: a basic search function that operates much like a concordance, a bookmarking function that allows for marking passages and reorganizing those bookmarks into an order appropriate for teaching or study, and a presentation mode that features a larger display suitable for projecting on a screen.

And here’s a clip from a local news station. Listen closely to some of the thoughts in this short vid:

What are your thoughts? I personally love the fact that he was able to pitch the idea to Lifeway and they agreed. Sweet.

The Waterproof Bible

Posted by John Saddington on Nov 5, 2009

The waterproof Bible is almost a “duh” product. I can’t count how many times I’ve been frustrated after spilling something on my bible and then having to fan out the pages.

Argh!

Published by Bardin and Marsee, it’s available in both KJV and NIV versions and recently they’ve released a great campaign where you can “buy one and give one,” just like TOM Shoes:

“We believe every consumer benefits from the increased lifespan and durability of the Waterproof Bible. However, we are especially passionate about getting this better designed Bible into the hands of those in developing countries, where the people often face harsh environments and living conditions.

Through our BOGO program, these third-world citizens will receive the same long-lasting product that our customers get, but for free,” said Bobby Bardin, co-developer of the Waterproof Bible.

I love it.

This is an obvious need and I wonder why it wasn’t developed sooner. You have to love technology (not just web!).

Logos Launches Bible Software v4 and iPhone App

Posted by John Saddington on Nov 2, 2009

logo_v4

logo_iphone_v4Got word this morning that Logos announced the release of v4 of their Logos Bible Software.

Rocking!

I’ve been using this software for years and there really isn’t anything else like it. I use it for both personal use as well as my theological studies at Seminary.

In addition to this release is their iPhone App which also looks stunning.

Packed with features that other Bible software doesn’t it’s going to be a great companion piece for your mobile device.

I particularly like the Greek and Hebrew view that will make me sound more intelligent than I actually am.

;)

Cool. Thanks Logos for your work for the Kingdom and keep it coming!

And if you haven’t already, go purchase and download this thing!

Any one else have a “good word” about this software? Speak up!

Using Technology To Keep The Faith

Posted by Tom on Oct 27, 2009

This is a Guest Post by Tom McFarlin.

Between all the technology and online services that we’ve created each of which demands our attention on some level, sometimes I wonder what we’ve really done to ourselves. There is a constant temptation to feel like we need to stay udpated with all this stuff online.

It’s amazing we get anything done.

Yeah, I know. There’s already a lot of critics out there about this kind of stuff. I’m not one of them. Sure, I think you can go overboard with certain things but that is something that’s held true long before the Internet. Instead, I’ve attempted to actually to leverage all of this stuff to help keep myself honest in pursuing my faith rather than distracting me from it.

Here are three ADD-inducing technologies and one ancient strategy that I leverage to help me keep the faith:
