TokBox Is The Hotness

Posted by John Saddington on Dec 15, 2008

The following picture is really all I need to say about this.

TokBox is freaking cool.

I had honestly only used this service for a 1:1 chat with a fellow friend back in Austin and didn’t think much of the service until Tony Steward invited me to a nerdfest in the real.

Thanks to Twitter, we had more than 20 live feeds from a few who were rocking the cameras and some just voice.  Coolest feature (beyond those that are obvious) is that users without accounts can jump right in on the action.  This “lowering the bar” is crucial for mass adoption, and I’m pretty sure that everyone who engaged with the crowd tonight signed up for real accounts.

The possibilities are endless for this simple service.  I’m already thinking of about 10.

Have you tried TokBox?  It’s freaking rocks.

***UPDATE***

Apparently the count rocked upwards toward 60+.  I had to leave so I could do real productive things… but wow.

  1. Jumped on based on your Twitter tweet. I agree that it was incredible. There are so many uses and ways to apply this. You are so right in that the easy adoption without having to get an account is going to be crucial and may help it advance quickly.

Thanks for the tweet and letting me see this.

Yeah Bro! tokbox IS the hottness!
We just started using tokbox at Seacoast to bring campus pastors together for sermon planning!

    • very cool. love to see other in-the-real-implementations.

  3. Many thanks for the kind Tokbox mention.

    • thanks for dropping a line damon!

  4. I think we need to have preset rules for using TokBox, though. The feedback/echoing was a bit rough at times.

The conversations really got rough as we got 30+ chatters.

    Very impressive service, though.

    • yeah. definitely need some moderation and controls.

  5. This was quite fun.

    • thanks for joining!

  6. Hi human3rror,

    Glad to.

    Hi Leo,
Headsets greatly help with issues like echo and ambient noise. I would also highly recommend folks work on Flash 10 for best performance (link:http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).

    • hehe. nice.

    • Ah, great. Thanks for the advice. I saw the note at the top of the page. I will make sure to include both of these "recommendations" for users the next time we run with it.

  7. Haha, yeah TokBox!

  8. got your pic on there. insanity.

    • it was craziness…

      • Yeah, that was pretty wild. I saw @human3rror's rt that said we might have set the record for most vid chatters on toxbox. Nice! :)

  9. Woah! First of all, intense debate is gone? What happened? Second of all, tokbox was awesome, but worked for me for only about 15 seconds, then my browser went kaplut! Every one of them. So yeah, no fun there.

    • it's still here…

  10. Hi Leo,
Thanks! I put together a little item here as well: http://tinyurl.com/68jyzb

    • Damon,

Thanks for that information. I will definitely pass this on when other users seem to struggle.

      • hehe.

      • hey leo, what do you think about using tokbox for "other" things…?

        • Yes, yes, and yes. I think it will actually be very appropriate.

  11. tokbox rocks. agree there needs to be some sort of moderation

    • we rocked it today. moderation works.

Thanks for showing me TokBox. I love their service. Sending video emails has never been easier and I am going to use it to connect with multiple family members across the country on Christmas morning. TokBox Christmas present opening is going to be really cool.
