Tribes: A Group Blogging Project – #Tribes
The name “Seth Godin” is pretty much a household name, and his book, “Tribes“, has been a smashing success, challenging and changing the way we think about and use online technology and social media.
Although his knowledge and wisdom was once more well known in the enterprise, high tech, large business and silicon-valley landscapes, his practices, thoughts, and methods of creating community are nearly universal, and he has begun to appear in more ministry and evangelical circles over the last year or so.
If you want more information about Seth, check out his blog, this interview at Catalyst, or just Google “seth”.
As a result I’ve decided to create a Group Blogging Project where a number of other interested bloggers and I could develop a little “tribe” ourselves as we walk through the book together.
Overview:
We’ll be “Group Blogging” the book Tribes by Seth Godin. Many of the participants got their free copy from a Catalyst West Giveaway: (http://churchcrunch.com/2009/02/18/free-book-from-catalyst-west-group-blogging-project/).
Essentially, we’ll be taking turns “Leading the Conversation” on our own blogs about particular “chapters.” For the sake of everyone involved, I’ve assigned the “chapters” for organizational purposes (and since there are really no “chapters” anyways).
Nearly 30 people signed up to participate and we’ll take turns leading the group through discussion via their blogs on select days and over selected pages of the actual book.
In this way, the tribal knowledge of the collective will pour into the blogosphere.
Purpose:
The purpose of this Group Blog Project is to mutually encourage each other to use some of Seth Godin’s wise advice and thoughts so that we may more adequately and effectively lead our own “personal tribes” online. We all have a tribe, we’re all part of one (or two or three…) and we want to be the best “leaders” we can possibly be.
Goal:
My hope is that collectively we can come away knowing more about ourselves and about managing, developing, and creating digital tribes online. I also hope that we can use this opportunity to network with others.
Also, I’ve talked with a bunch of interested people who may be willing to publish our collective results into an e-Book…! This would also be quite fun!
