What Technology are You Thankful For?

thanksgiving-turkeyTomorrow is Thanksgiving and as we all know our minds tend toward things that we’re thankful for.

So I ask you dearest reader of this technologically-minded blog: What technology are you thankful for?

Here’s my list for this Thanksgiving:

  • WordPress – Without you dearest WordPress I wouldn’t be able to do what I do daily.
  • My iPhone – Regardless of how much life it takes up and how demanding that little freaking piece of equipment can be, I’m thankful that I have it and for the people who finally made a phone that I could be happy with for more than 30 seconds.
  • The 8P8C – Read my thoughts here (and you’re a uber nerd if you know what that is without clicking…).
  • Flash – Although this platform is now heavily abused and misused I still love it to death. Read why here.
  • The Microwave – I’m still amazed at how this technology actually works… but I love it.

    WordPress is dependent on 8P8C. Awesome how it all intermingles with each other. Technology is grand.

    My iPod- Whatever did i do when i couldn't have several days worth of music, podcasts and audiobooks as well as an assortment of games and photos ready to entertain me at any time?

    My EEE pc netbook. Was so cheap (AU$260/US$240 new) and is so convenient. Much lighter to carry round than my heavy normal laptop and so much easier to fit on tiny lecture theatre and tutorial room desks.

    Facebook- I was a very late adapter (november last year at the end of my first year of college). Should have joined sooner. Makes keeping up with friends spread around the world so much easier.

    xml ;)
    oh and Non Linear Editing especially in Final Cut Pro
    and the sensors in Digital Video Cameras the CCD things
    and of course twitter and wordpress for the connections I have made thru them

    Tech I am thankful for:
    1. Cloud computing – seriously, my stuff anywhere I am.
    2. Google – love 'em or hate 'em, again, my stuff anywhere I am ;-)
    3. iPhone -changed the way I interact with the people – you can argue if that's better or not
    4. Digital Bible-study resources – still a lot of publishers who need to get a clue and get with it
    5. RSS – you know why

    So glad for RSS feeds – can keep up with the likes of Church Crunch and other blogs. Glad for digital radiography, CR, PACS, etc. They have made the world of medical imaging, faster, easier, wonderfully detailed and beautiful. Also – no more lost x-ray films!

    Technology:
    The entire company of Apple and Steve Jobs. Because of you I am thankful for:
    iPod—without you there would be no iPhone (well, maybe)
    iPhone
    MBP

    -WordPress-gives people like me a voice to express ourselves
    -HD (there is just something about watching a sporting event or show in HD, amazing)
    -Church Crunch (suck up points gained)

    Wifi – This would be near the top of the list. I use it at work, at home, at church, at Starbucks, etc. It has served me well.

    My Blackberry – While it can be a curse sometimes because of constant connectivity it is also a blessing because it has kept me in the loop on a lot of things I need to be aware of when I didn't have wifi and/or my laptop at my disposal. :)

    Twitter – Really. I have connected with some awesome people via Twitter that I am certain i would not have, had this technology not existed.

    Xbox 360 – People may piss and moan about Windows, but Microsoft got it right with this one and it's better than the rest. Yes, the PS3 offers integrated Blu-Ray and probably better graphics with more complex games, but it doesn't come close to to Xbox's abilities with regard to online play and entertainment integration.

    I like the new stuff, but I'm thankful for the 'old' technology that made it possible to even arrive here:

    - Printing Press
    - Combustion Engine
    - Transistor

    This is such an awesome idea for a post. Totally able to shamelessly geek-out over the stuff we love with other geeks.

    I dunno if this is cheating but I am thankful for the Internet and all (well, okay, *most*) things built on top of it.
    - I love being able to stay in touch with family and friends regardless of where they are.
    - I enjoy connecting with others that I've never actually met in person.
    - I try not to take for granted having such a massive amount of information readily available.

    Also, I wouldn't have a career without it.

    1. My MacBook Pro. I don't remember computing before my Mac. It's simply amazing.
    2. My BlackBerry. Until I can get an iPhone on Verizon my BlackBerry is doing the trick.
    3. Facebook so that I can keep up with my friends and family.
    4. Hulu.com I haven't turned my TV on in a long time. I'm thinking about stopping my TiVo service so I can pay for Hulu when they make that official in January.
    5. WordPress as well… it's allowed me to receive information from my favorite interwebby people on a daily basis.

    funny, I posted a top 12 all day on twitter. Here's a portion of my list:
    1. iPhone. Best computer I've ever had, now gets more use than any computer I've ever had
    2. The app store.
    3. My new Kodak Zi8. 1080p ready to go in my shirt pocket?
    4. WordPress
    5. Google apps. gmail, news, docs and reader! I don't ever want to go back to checking 30+ websites daily
    6 .Facebook. should be higher since I spend so much time on it every day, for business and friends
    7. Pandora. thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou Pandora for staying on the air (web)
    8. Skype with video. I can interview anyone around the world for tv/broadcast without a satellite dish. And it's free.
    9. Ustream and Justin.tv.
    10. Logos and YouVersion Bibles for smartphones.
    11. Wolfgang's Vault. Guilty pleasures listening to 1978 concerts by Springsteen, Chicago etc.

    Coolest thing, I didn't use most of these things last Thanksgiving.
