Who Hosts Your Blog?

“So… John, who hosts your blogs?”
I get that question a lot.
The quick and dirty answer is that I use a MediaTemple and their (dv) EXTREME service with upgraded memory to boot.
Do the math and you’ll see that I’m forking over quite a few pennies every month.
But, apparently it’s working great for a number *ahem* of the sites that I run.
I share all of this because I would never recommend their (gs) Grid-Service shared-hosting platform… just their (dv) and above.
But, let’s say that you can’t just walk up to your blogger buddy and ask them a question about their hosting provider… or you’re not connected with that uber famous blogger on twitter and are too afraid to ask them what they’re using… but you love their blog and their site and want to use everything they’re using.
What to do…?
Try WhoIsHostingThis.com.
A simple service where you input the web address of a site and it spits back to you who they are using to host their service.
Pretty simple, straightforward. No secrets, no nothing.
Whoa… looks like I’m in good company…!
I’m digging my hosting provider.
So, who do you use?

Nexcess.net the mini-me package with 5 domains.
boo! they suck!
if i had half the opinion of you that you have of yourself, it would still be higher than my actual opinion of you.
dork.

… k. thx.
inmotionhosting.com for the Issachar Network, and wordpress.com for my blog…
sweet, thanks!
I have been using godaddy (I know, cliche, right?) for a couple reasons. I need a new Drupal or Wordpress install? They do it for me, free.
I also pay for unlimited transfer and space for about $14/month.
dreamhost can do that cheaper…
but, if it works, it works!
bluehost.com it works really well with wordpress.org and has the scripts for wordpress updates whenever available. It gives me unlimited space and all that for fairly cheap!
yeah, i've heard good thing.s
bluehost.com
ditto above.
John,
I'm glad you're having a good experience at MT. As for me, I had to move from them. Too many out of memory errors that traced back to them and not our code or setup. We moved to slicehost.com, who just recently was bought out by Rackspace. So far so good.
if it works, it works.!
cool resource find John, I use DreamHost
good place to start. if you start going VPS… jump ship.

i use http://www.brinkster.com for personal/shared hosting for Windows and .Net flavored sites. We (ministry) have a few sites on a dedicated server at http://www.1and1.com but lately we've been getting crummy customer service from 1 and 1.

lame.
Anyone else try to look really closely and see if you could figure out what the other domain names were? As for me, hostIcan(t)… however, I'm planning on leaving as soon as I get the nerve to transfer my 10 WP sites to a new server…
hehe. i just added 2 more…!
Currently using glob@t, but if I had it to do over again, I'd choose DreamHost. (Currently paid up for the rest of the year.)
… yippee!
